This scene was taken the weekend of Mother's Day, which is compared to a flower farmer's "Super Bowl". It can get pretty wild! We usually plan for this particular weekend a year in advance- ordering more bulbs of particular colors or taking notes of what didn't go so well.

Did you know that tulips need to be harvested a couple times a day when the weather is warm? (the weather often gets unseasonably warm in April,which means we need to scurry!)

We treat tulip bulbs like an annual- by pulling the whole bulb up along with  the plant and discarding the bulb. This is because the tulip would not produce a flower the following year since we would've cut all the leaves off that it would otherwise have used for the coming year's bloom nourishment.

The flower pictured above is my favorite! It's name is "ranunculus" and it's favorite season is mild spring.  Luxurious and fluffy petals are reminiscent of a rose. We plant them in the fall.Then over-winter them with heavy garden covers until the weather is just right to roll them back during the day. They take quite a bit more effort than other flowers, but they are worth it!

 We're big fans of ranunculus and grow as many as we can. Who can say No to the "rose of spring"? Here's some pictures to show you what we mean.

The end of April we set up a flower bar at the White Magnolia Coffee Co.

And in May we co-hosted a flower arranging workshop with "The Floral Cottage" from Womelsdorf. They turned out lovely with that sweet spring vibe- all inside a French Style nursery shop. Let me show you...
