How to take care of your flowers now that you've brought them home

Perhaps you've bought your very first bouquet from our roadside stand just this afternoon...Congratulations!!

Maybe you've even found us at a flower bar in town and chosen some of the very best blooms to bring along with you to your desk at work. You might've been dreaming where you'll place them and exactly which vase you're going to use. I hope you even snipped a few sprigs of your own bush to add to it.

Or just maybe it's not your first bouquet from Backyard Blooms! Either way, you'll be glad you read this so you can take care of your flowers they way they like the best.

Our very 1st Tip is...  Always start with a clean vase! (One that you wouldn't mind taking a drink out of) Choose one that isn't too wide or big for your bouquet.

Tip #2 from Backyard Blooms.....

Use snips or scissors that are sharp to trim the flower stems. When you're holding the flowers in your hand, the part above your fist is where it should rest on the top of the vase.  So hold the flowers against the outside of the vase and trim the bottom stems where they'd sit in the bottom. (Hint; you can always trim them shorter, but never longer)

Tip #3 from Backyard Blooms....

Help your flowers to last longer by keeping them in a cool spot, away from drafts, and out of the sun. (bonus points if they're in a spot that little hands & pets can't reach them.)

Tip #4 from Backyard Blooms...

Trim the bottom of the stems about 1/2" every time you change the water, which should be every 2-3 days. Certainly use the flower food packet that came with your flowers. Follow the directions on the packet. It helps to keep bacteria from growing in the water, and adds sugar-like content to keep your blooms bright and cheery longer!

And the last tip....

As the flowers mature, snip out the ones that have gone bad and enjoy the rest. Don't forget to enjoy your flowers! Hopefully they caught your eyes each and every time you walked past them, like they do to me. Then pause for a mere minute & take a a whiff of their special fragrance( not all flowers have a fragrance but some peonies, certain tulips, ranunculus, lilies..)

And then the next time a special occasion like your granddaughter's birthday...a golden anniversary (or any anniversary for that matter!)...graduation gift for that grown up teen in your life(!)....or a brand new baby... even just a pick me up in the middle of the day...

Go ahead and give our online pre-ordering a try! We think you'll like it.

And that's the end of our tips for longer-lasting flowers! Thank You for reading.
